Beard, 2007, ink on paper, 16 x 13 inches framed

Jesse Alpern Exploring the space between stability and collapse, Jesse Alpern's drawings consider both the crumbling structure and the simultaneous regenerative potency of order. Formal references are located as much in post-impressionist painting as in prison drawings or psychedelia. Born in 1979 in Long Beach, New York, he currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. He received a BA from Sarah Lawrence College and an MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York.
